JUAN DEL GASTOR was born into one of the most revered families in the history of Flamenco, del Gastor. Juan’s uncle, the legendary guitarist, Diego del Gastor, was the creator of a highly personal style which fused with the traditional style of his town, Morón de la Frontera, to create a school of flamenco guitar playing which is now world renowned. Juan grew up immersed in the traditional gypsy flamenco culture. Music, song and dance would ease the pain of hunger. Juan learned guitar from his uncle Diego and learn the art of accompanying singers such as Manolito de Maria, Juan Talega, Fernanda de Utrera and Joselero. Juan has a fine voice developed over the years by singing in private ‘fiestas’. He has also performed as a singer with various touring flamenco companies and audiences in the USA, Japan, Argentina, France and Germany have enjoyed his ‘buen cante'. Juan loves to sing and dance in the gypsy style of his home town. His spontaneity and contagious good humor have sparked many an impromptu fiesta which has lasted into the early hours. Juan believes the authentic art of flamenco is the integration of the singing, the dance and the guitar to create a harmonious whole.

About Twin Cities Flamenco Collective
Founded in 2015 and led by the executive member Sachiko “La Chayí” Nishiuchi, the mission of a community group Twin Cities Flamenco Collective (TCFC) is to bring the essence of authentic and traditional flamenco, especially the aspect of Cante (flamenco singing and songs), to the Twin Cities through education, community activities and performances. This concert is a part of TCFC’s Spanish artist residency project. We are fortunate and excited that maestro Juan del Gastor is in town for various educational programs and this concert from June 3 to 17. The purpose of the project is not only to educate ourselves about cante Flamenco but also to experience Flamenco as part of our daily life. Flamenco in its roots is an improvised communication and exchange of emotions between musicians and dancers through music as well as a culture and a way of life for many people in Andalusia.
